Immigration Officer Reportedly Missing After Meeting with Debtor Who Owed him 200k, Police Involved

A Ghana Immigration Service Officer has reportedly gone missing and is feared dead after a meeting with a friend who owed him GHS 200,000.

According to reports, Stephen King Amoah went missing on Thursday, July 3, 2025, after he met with the friend owing him.

He reportedly received a call from his friend and they met at Ashongman Estates where the debt was to be settled. Amoah reportedly informed his wife before attending the meeting.

Following the meeting, Amoah has not been seen.

ED Hub on Twitter who shared the news, claimed Amoah’s wife received a text after the meeting indicating he had returned home.

However, when they checked the residence, he never made it back.

“Later that evening, his wife, who was away from home, received a message from her husband’s phone indicating he had returned home safely with the money. Suspicious of the message, she asked Amoah’s brother to check on him at their residence. However, upon arrival, Amoah was nowhere to be found.” the post said.

“The family’s attempts to reach him since then have been unsuccessful. His phone remains switched off, and no trace of him has been found.”

According to ED HUB, the friend who sent the text claims he paid back Amoah’s GHS 200,000 and even received an additional GHS 300,000 from him for safekeeping. However, the family have made a report to the police and the so-called friend has been arrested to assist with investigations.

Analysis

It’s great to hear that authorities have gotten involved in the case because it’s distressing for a family to lose a loved one, particularly a breadwinner, in such a manner.

The narration as stated indicates that the friend might be a suspect, but no one can make that determination but the police themselves.

Irrespective of what happened, this story contains lessons for the rest of us regarding dealing with people we lend money to, even if you consider them friends.
