“Where are the men?” Kennedy Agyapong Rubbishes Order to Boycott Ablekuma North rerun

The former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Assin Central and aspiring Presidential candidate, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has rubbished the party’s decision to boycott the rerun of the Ablekuma North parliamentary elections.
Speaking in an interview on his NET 2 TV channel on Thursday, July 10, 2025, Kennedy Agyapong said the party’s decision is akin to leaving the seat freely for the NDC to take.
He said the NPP claims they have ‘men’ when it comes to Ghanaian politics yet they have decided to leave a woman, NPP Ablekuma North parliamentary candidate Nana Akua Afriyie, to fight for her seat alone.
“”How can an entire party leave one woman to fight for an election on her own? Meanwhile we claim ‘we have the men, we have the men’, so where are the men? So in my mind, we have to go. If you win, you win, if you lose, you lose,” he said.
The Electoral Commission has ordered that a rerun be held in 19 polling stations of the constituency where the pink sheets of the final results could not be retrieved. The results of the 19 polling stations would be added to the neck and neck results from the rest of the constituency to decide the next Parliamentary candidate from the constituency.
Agyapong said that the NPP are favoured in 14 of the 19 constituencies; hence, it would be a foolish decision to boycott the polls as the party’s leadership has decided.
“In the 19 polling stations, we always win in 14 of them. In my opinion the National Executives should rescind the boycott order; we have to go there. We cannot allow the NDC to take it. Are we saying we are gifting the NDC the seat? So we have to go; the NDC are our friends; no one is more of a man than the other.” he concluded.
Analysis of Kennedy Agyapong’s Ablekuma North reaction
The former MP is 100% correct in his assessment of the NPP’s need to contest the runoff, which is scheduled for Friday, July 11.
Even if they lose, it is better to try and lose than not to try at all.
The surrender tactic from the national executives was taken not for the good of the party but simply in the interest of grandstanding, which appears to be the NPP’s only political tactic in the months since losing the 2024 elections.
It is now taking them anywhere, and they need to change tack!
