Why NDC Members Deserve Top Gov’t Jobs – Gbande Explains

Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has strongly defended President John Mahama’s decision to prioritise party loyalists for government appointments, saying the approach is both intentional and necessary.

“Why won’t it be job for the boys? Yes, it has to be. President Mahama cannot abandon NDC members and rather work with the NPP people. It’s not possible,” he asserted in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem.

Gbande dismissed criticisms that Mahama’s leadership strategy was overly partisan.

Citing recent appointments, he praised the inclusion of Sammy Gyamfi as a prime example of the former president’s effective leadership style.

“Sammy Gyamfi was appointed to lead GoldBoD because we know what he can do. He’s gifted. I wasn’t surprised when he turned GoldBoD around. Look at where it is now,” Gbande said.

He explained that Mahama’s strategy is rooted in building a responsive and connected government.

“Mahama grooms and knows his people. That’s why he gives opportunities to party people—not outsiders.

It’s the only way the government can stay connected to the party base,” he stated.

Gbande also emphasized the value of experience in youth-related roles.

“It makes sense that youth initiatives should be led by someone who has managed the party’s youth before.

He understands their needs and can truly help them,” he added.

To NDC supporters who may feel left out, Gbande had a word of encouragement. “Don’t lose hope.

The fact that you haven’t received a call yet doesn’t mean you’ve been forgotten. Be patient—there’s still more room,” he assured.

He also urged grassroots members to be more proactive.

“When I go to my office, party people are always there.

They are engaging, taking care of others. That’s how it should be. Don’t sit at home and just call—go and ask directly,” Gbande advised.

Gbande’s position is simply an honest acknowledgment of how politics is ran in this country.

Nana Akufo-Addo is best remembered for surrounding his administration with family members and close friends.

In light of the recent agitations among the NDC base concerning feelings of neglect related to appointments, Gbande’s explanation could significantly help to ease tensions, particularly following the appointment of former Bawumia aide Rosemond Obeng as a presidential staffer by President Mahama.
