“We were robbed”: NPP Claims after Ablekuma North Rerun

The constituency secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ablekuma North constituency, Frederick Green, has claimed the party was robbed during the recently held rerun.

Speaking on Channel One Newsroom on Friday, July 11, he accused the Electoral Commission and the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government of colluding to rob the NPP of its properly acquired seat.

“We just thank everyone in Ablekuma North, but we are not surprised that this was going to happen, we have been robbed, like we have been saying. We won, but the EC and the sitting government did everything they could to manipulate this election,” he said.

Green pointed to the use of violence by some government ‘thugs’ at several polling centres as another element of the robbery plot.

He went back to the December 2024 elections and said the NPP was leading with only three polling stations to go yet the Electoral Commission circumvented the process to concoct this rerun.

“You recall that we collated these results, and we were left with just three polling stations. These three polling stations were what was supposed to have continued and been declared, but they said no. We had to go and have a rerun of the 19 polling stations that we are not even aware of. What they wanted to do was to queue us and manipulate the results,” he said.

The NDC’s Ewurabena Aubynn won the Ablekuma North seat after she polled 34,090 votes across all 281 polling stations in the constituency, including the 19 where a rerun was held.

The NPP’s Nana Akua Afriyie polled 33,881 votes. Total votes cast were 68,382, with 411 ballots rejected.

How the world turns!

Throughout last year, the NDC had massive problems with the Electoral Commission’s actions, while the NPP fully supported them in everything they did, including going to court on their behalf.

Who would have thought that a time would come when the NPP would complain about Jean Mensa’s EC? Life really comes at you fast!
