Bawumia Created Confusion by Conceding Early – Fuseini

Inusah Fuseini has blamed Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s early concession in the 2024 general elections for disrupting the collation of parliamentary results across the country.

The former Member of Parliament for Tamale Central argued that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer’s premature congratulatory message to National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate John Dramani Mahama interfered with the Electoral Commission’s work and contributed to widespread neglect of final vote collation.

“It is important to note that after every election, the Electoral Commission has between 48 to 72 hours to collate and declare results,” Fuseini stated.

“But Bawumia conceded long before the EC could complete its process… That action rendered every activity happening at the collation centres moot.”

According to him, many electoral officials and party agents abandoned their posts after the concession, assuming the process had ended.

“Because of that, nobody paid attention to the parliamentary results again.

His early concession derailed the process,” he menioned on The Big Issue on Saturday, July 13.

Fuseini rejected the notion that the move helped ease tensions, instead claiming it introduced confusion at key electoral centres.

“He did not help hold the country together; he created confusion.

There was no tension building — people were simply waiting for results.

But once he conceded, people at centres like Ablekuma North, who were still collating pink sheets, saw no need to continue,” he noted.

I find Fuseini’s posture very strange.

Given the tension surrounding elections in our part of he world, Bawumia acted honorably by conceding early to prevent escalating issues.

We all praised him for this and gained significant respect from the international community.

President Mahama also congratulated him for his actions, so it is interesting that Fuseini would say what he did disrupted the electoral process.

This is indeed strange.
