My Suspension Is Dead on Arrival – Christopher Arthur

The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2024 parliamentary candidate for Agona West, Christopher Arthur, has rubbished his purported suspension from the party, describing it as politically motivated and without merit.

Arthur expressed shock at the news, insisting that he was not given any prior notice or opportunity to respond to any allegations before the announcement was made in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show.

“I had closed from work and was on my way home when I received calls from some party members that a letter had been issued announcing my suspension.

I was surprised because I had not been informed or heard anything about it prior to that,” he recounted.

The Agona West candidate explained that the supposed reason behind the suspension was his support for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia during the NPP primaries.

“I was told I was suspended because I and some other members campaigned for Dr. Bawumia.

But let me be clear—I haven’t breached any party directive, and no one has summoned me or given me a chance to respond,” he said.

Arthur further revealed that some executives were just as confused as he was when the suspension letter surfaced.

“When I saw the letter, I called some executives to verify, and they said they had no idea and were not part of it.

Even some regional executives are shocked by the incident,” he said.

He dismissed the move as a smear campaign intended to undermine his growing influence.

“This is just an attempt to bring me down, but they’re only making me more popular.

I call it dead on arrival—it won’t hold any water,” Arthur said confidently.

Unfazed by the development, he assured party members and supporters that his commitment to Dr. Bawumia’s presidential bid remains resolute.

“Let them continue making noise. Nothing has happened. I’m still standing strong, and our support for Bawumia will continue,” he affirmed.

Arthur concluded with a firm pledge: “When the time is right, we will campaign. We will work hard to ensure Dr. Bawumia becomes President.”

The cracks within the NPP is getting deeper, and I must assert that if they do not organize themselves properly, there is no chance they will win the 2028 elections.

Suspending members from their party due to their affiliations to the different flagbearer candidates doesn’t make sense at all, highlighting the ongoing, undetected issues that have been affecting the party since their massive 2014 loss to the NDC.
