She Didn’t Attack! – Ntoso Clashes with Minority Over Hawa Koomson Debate

Krachi West MP, Helen Ntoso, fiercely defended her colleague Ayamba Ayii Laadi on the floor of Parliament after the Pusiga legislator came under fire for referencing former Fisheries Minister Mavis Hawa Koomson during a debate on electoral violence.

Tension built up when Ntoso, responding to criticisms from the Minority side, shot back at hecklers with an angry outburst: “She didn’t attack. Shut up over there! Shut up!”

Her remarks came after several Minority MPs interrupted her mid-submission.

The chaos began when Parliament was debating the violent incidents that marred the Ablekuma North election rerun on Friday, July 11, 2025.

Contributing to the conversation, Ayamba Ayii Laadi pointed to historical cases of electoral violence in Ghana, noting that Hawa Koomson’s past conduct — including going to a polling station with pepper spray — was part of a troubling pattern, not an isolated event.

Her comments sparked outrage from some Minority MPs, who accused her of maligning womanhood and personally attacking the former Minister.

But Helen Ntoso pushed back forcefully, insisting that the Pusiga MP was merely stating facts.

“She was not attacking women or Hawa Koomson’s character,” Ntoso asserted.

As tensions escalated, the MP for Weija-Gbawe and Second Deputy Minority Whip, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, attempted to interject.

However, presiding Speaker Bernard Ahiafor swiftly shut him down, reminding him that Parliamentary procedure required prior approval before joining the debate.

In a final jab, Ntoso reminded the House of her seniority, subtly dismissing Ahmed Shaib’s objections. “He may be a Whip,” she said, “but I’ve been here longer.”

Hawa Koomson’s situation is quite sensitive.

Although I empathize with her regarding the brutal assaults she endured at the St. Peters polling station during the Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun, another part of me believes she brought this upon herself.

This is a woman who openly provokes violence and participates in it.

Given her past actions in Kasoa during a previous election that led to the death of an NDC member, it is difficult to justify her when the tables are turned against her.
