Mahama Fulfils Promise as Nursing Trainees Receive Six-Month Allowance

The Ministry of Health has announced that it has disbursed GHS 462 million to support training allowances for 120,000 nursing students across Ghana.

The payment, which covers a six-month period, is part of President John Dramani Mahama’s broader initiative to provide financial relief to students in Nurses Training Colleges.

In a press release signed by Deputy Director and Spokesperson Tony Goodman, the Ministry confirmed that the disbursement began today and is expected to continue through to next Friday.

“The Ministry of Health can confirm that an amount of GHS 462 million has been disbursed to support the training allowances of 120,000 nursing students across the country,” the statement read.

The allowance was one of the key campaign promises made by President Mahama, and the Ministry believes its fulfilment is a major step toward improving the welfare of nursing trainees and encouraging the next generation of health professionals.

“This development is a significant step in improving the welfare of nursing trainees and sustaining the motivation of future health professionals,” the Ministry noted.

The statement further commended the President for honouring his commitment, describing the move as timely and critical in bolstering the healthcare sector.

“The Ministry extends its appreciation to the President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, for fulfilling his promise to the nurses, as well as all other stakeholders involved in facilitating the timely release and distribution of the funds.”

The Ministry concluded by affirming its ongoing collaboration with nursing institutions to ensure that quality healthcare education continues to thrive across the country.
