Mildred Donkor Rejects Lawyer in GH¢49 Million NSB Case

Mildred Donkor, one of the accused persons in the ongoing National Signals Bureau (NSB) scandal, surprised the High Court in Accra on Friday, July 18, 2025, when she openly declined legal representation from renowned lawyer and former Member of Parliament, Samuel Atta Akyea.
Her decision, delivered in open court, reportedly triggered mixed reactions among observers, particularly because Atta Akyea had been serving as lead counsel for all three accused persons in the high-profile case. Donkor simply informed the judge that she no longer wished to be represented by him.
The case, which has drawn significant national attention, involves former NSB Director-General Kwabena Adu Boahene, his wife Angela Adjei Boateng, Mildred Donkor, and Advantage Solutions Limited.
They are facing 11 criminal charges, including stealing, money laundering, defrauding by false pretences, and wilfully causing financial loss to the state.
According to court records, Adu-Boahene allegedly transferred approximately GH¢49 million (around $7 million) from NSB’s coffers into his personal accounts under the guise of payments for cyber defence software procured from Israeli firm ISC Holdings Limited.

The Attorney-General, Dr. Dominic Ayine, is prosecuting the matter, describing it as one of the most serious national security-related corruption cases in recent memory.
This is a situation that Ghanaians, myself included, are watching closely.
Given the substantial evidence, anything less than imprisonment for Mildred and her husband would significantly weaken our judicial system.
The notion that this case is merely another political gimmick by both the NDC and NPP during transitions of power, aimed at convincing Ghanaians of their commitment to fighting corruption, should not obscure the truth.
Regardless of Mildred’s reasons for dropping her lawyer like a yam, our primary concern as Ghanaians is justice.
