Police Arrest Two in Ablekuma North Election Chaos

Two of the thugs responsible for the chaos at the St. Peter’s Society Polling Station in Odokor during the Ablekuma North parliamentary election rerun have been arrested, the Accra Regional Police Command has confirmed.

The violence, which erupted on Friday, July 11, 2025, led to the brutal assault of Deputy National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Chris Lloyd Nii Kwei Asamoah, and Minister Hawa Koomson by unidentified men who stormed the polling centre in a pickup truck.

According to eyewitness accounts, the attackers forced their way into the centre, overpowering police officers assigned to maintain order.

Video footage showed Mr. Asamoah attempting to prevent the men from entering the premises before being slapped and punched repeatedly. Minister Hawa Koomson was also reportedly heckled, shoved, and beaten by the same group.

In a press release issued on July 23 and signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Region, the police named the two arrested suspects as Musah Muntari, a 46-year-old Station Manager at STC, and Ali Saeed, alias Mboma, a 43-year-old businessman.

“Both suspects are assisting with investigations,” the statement noted.

The police say the arrests form part of an ongoing probe into all violent incidents that marred the electoral process in the Ablekuma North Constituency.

“The Accra Regional Police Command assures the public of its commitment to ensuring that all persons responsible for acts of violence, intimidation, or misconduct during the elections are brought to justice,” the release emphasized.

It’s refreshing to see that, at last, the police have demonstrated competence and the will to act decisively—without cloaking the incident in political bias, as alleged by the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Unlike previous instances of electoral violence under Nana Akufo-Addo’s administration—some of which tragically resulted in the loss of lives with no arrests to date—this development sets President Mahama apart in his quest to leave a legacy of accountability and justice.
