15 Church Youth Die in Juaso-Nkawkaw Crash

A gory accident on the Juaso-Nkawkaw stretch of the Accra-Kumasi highway has left fifteen young members of the Obogu Saviour Church dead in a crash involving a fuel tanker and a Ford Transit bus.
The victims, aged between 4 and 21, were returning from a church congress in Koforidua when the tragedy struck on Tuesday afternoon.
According to reports, the fuel tanker, which was travelling in the Kumasi-Accra direction, suffered a tyre burst while attempting to overtake another vehicle.
It veered uncontrollably and collided head-on with the bus carrying the church youth.
Emergency teams from the Juaso Motor Traffic and Transport Directorate (MTTD), Ambulance Service, and the Ghana National Fire Service from Konongo and Juaso arrived promptly at the scene.
Despite their efforts, the impact had already taken a heavy toll—leaving a trail of twisted metal, a dislodged engine, and shattered lives.
At the Juaso Hospital, fifteen bodies now lie in the mortuary while four others remain in critical condition at the Emergency Unit.
Kofi Baah, an elder of the Obogu Saviour Church, confirmed that among the deceased are the children of the church’s Head Pastor. “Some parents have lost two or three children.
It’s heartbreaking,” he told Adom FM’s reporter, Isaac Amoako. “We were home when the distress call came. The children left for the retreat on Friday and we never imagined they wouldn’t return.”
The bus, which was nearly destroyed beyond recognition, was transporting the youth group back to Obogu after the weekend retreat. What was meant to be a spiritual journey ended in unimaginable loss.
