They Lied to Us – Fuseini Issah Challenges NDC’s Commitment to Galamsey Fight

Fuseini Issah, former Member of Parliament for Okaikwei North and a leading communicator for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has launched a scathing attack on the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), accusing them of hypocrisy and deception in the ongoing fight against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.

Issah questioned the sincerity and competence of the NDC in dealing with the menace, especially now that they are in power during a panel discussion on Channel One TV monitored by Liberalprint.

“The judge was on TV telling us that they could stop their menace within days, within days. What then happened?” he asked, expressing disbelief at what he termed failed promises.

He criticized the NDC’s legislative approach and recalled how, while in opposition, they vehemently opposed reforms brought by the NPP, only to return to tweak the same legislation once in power.

“Even the legislation that was in Parliament, when they were in opposition—‘oh when we can, we will just take it out of Parliament.’

They came and they wanted to tweak it. Is that what they told us when they were in opposition?”

Fuming over what he described as a betrayal of public trust, Issah accused the NDC of politicizing the fight against illegal mining during the Akufo-Addo administration but failing to act decisively now that they are at the helm.

“They made it an NPP issue when they were in opposition.

They made it an Anadolu-Danku-Eku-Fuadu issue when they were in opposition. Why is it not a John Dramani-Mahama issue today? Why is it not an NDC issue today?”

Reacting to recent remarks by the president labeling galamsey as a national emergency, Issah questioned the timing and motive behind the declaration.

“The president last week or so, he said the menace is a national emergency. Since when?” he asked, adding sarcastically, “They didn’t know that while they were in opposition.”

He also blasted the NDC’s leadership and accused them of misleading the public for political gain.

“They are liars. And now they are faced with the reality. They are liars. They lie to us.”

Indeed, the galamsey menace is spiraling out of control.

If President Mahama fails to address it decisively, as he promised, it will cast a serious shadow over his legacy—especially considering the commendable performance of his government since winning the 2024 elections.
