During his familiarisation tour of the 3 Garrison in Sunyani, the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General William Agyapong, reaffirmed the military’s commitment to supporting personnel injured in the line of duty.

The visit, which took place on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, was marked by a symbolic presentation of a United Nations compensation package to Warrant Officer Class One (WOI) Alhassan Habib, a Ghanaian peacekeeper who sustained injuries while on mission in Lebanon.

WOI Habib, a member of Ghana Battalion 89 (GHANBATT 89), was involved in a car accident while serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

His injuries, sustained during active duty, qualified him for the UN’s compensation scheme—a support initiative designed for peacekeepers who experience harm while serving under the UN flag.

Lieutenant General Agyapong commended him for his sacrifice and professionalism, noting that the Ghana Armed Forces would continue to ensure that injured personnel receive the necessary care and recognition.

In a separate but related development, the Ghana Armed Forces has rewarded another act of integrity by promoting Private Solomon Asare Teye-Tsu, who recently turned down a bribe from illegal miners.

At a durbar held at Burma Camp on Friday, July 11, the young soldier, currently with the Department of Public Relations, was elevated to the rank of Lance Corporal by the CDS himself. As part of the recognition, he also received a citation and has been nominated to join the UN peacekeeping mission in Lebanon.

Speaking at the ceremony, Lieutenant General Agyapong praised the soldier’s conduct and used the moment to send a clear message.

“Much as acts of indiscipline will attract sanctions, professional conduct such as that of L/Cpl Teye-Tsu will attract reward and commendation,” he stated, encouraging others to uphold the military’s values.
