NPP’s Assafuah Exposes Defence Minister’s U-Turn on Presidential Jet

Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, has challenged recent statements made by Ghana’s Minister for Defence regarding the status of the Falcon Presidential Jet, accusing him of misleading the public for political gain.

Assafuah recounted how the Minister had earlier claimed via social media that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had “destroyed the presidential jet,” and implied that this was the reason Vice President John Mahama could not use it.

However, according to Assafuah, the Minister gave a different account when questioned under oath on the floor of Parliament.

“In response to my official question on the use of chartered flights by the Vice President, the Minister confessed that the Falcon Presidential Jet was simply undergoing delayed maintenance checks at the time, hence the use of a chartered aircraft,” Assafuah revealed in a Facebook post sighted by Liberalprint.com.

The MP continued, “And when I asked whether the fault was due to negligence under the previous NPP administration, suddenly he wanted to act neutral: ‘We shouldn’t politicize issues regarding the Presidential jet.’”

Assafuah questioned the inconsistency: “If the NPP indeed destroyed the jet as you claimed, why now urge us not to politicize it? Why deny the very claim you peddled online when accountability calls?”

He accused the Minister of shifting narratives to suit political convenience.

“The truth is simple: they thrive on misleading Ghanaians online, but they shrink when the facts must be told before the people’s representatives,” he stated.

Assafuah concluded with a sharp warning: “Let this be a reminder: screenshots may win you Facebook applause, but Hansard records expose your contradictions.

We are watching. We will ask the questions. And we will not let the lies fly any longer.”

I find it difficult to understand Mr. Assafuah’s statements.

The reality is that the presidential jet is in a bad shape and poses a serious risk.

This is why the NDC made it clear that Vice President Jane Opoku-Agyemang was not permitted to use it during her overseas medical trip.

Currently, the jet is grounded in France for extensive repairs following the discovery of significant defects.

It is also a fact that this deterioration occurred during Nana Akufo-Addo’s administration, so what is the purpose of the lengthy speech about it?
