He Didn’t Steal the Cars – NPP’s Paul Yandoh Defends Kofi Jumah
The Ashanti Regional Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Paul Kofi Yandoh, has strongly defended former GIHOC Distilleries Managing Director, Maxwell Kofi Jumah, amid swirling allegations of unlawfully retaining state-owned vehicles.
Mr. Jumah, popularly known as Kofi Ghana, was arrested on Sunday, June 29, while reportedly celebrating his birthday at a private residence in Kumasi.
He was later transferred to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters in Accra following a formal complaint from GIHOC Distilleries.
The company alleged that he failed to return three official vehicles after his tenure ended.
But speaking on Morning Starr with Naa Dedei Tettey on Tuesday, July 1, Paul Yandoh insisted there was no foul play.
“The issue is that he is the former MD and per his conditions of service, he can purchase the vehicle,” Yandoh explained.
“There are laid down rules and procedures. First, you need board approval—he has that, and I can show it to you.

“Second, there must be an evaluation by STC with a stated value—he did that too.
‘Lastly, there should be a transfer of ownership, and that has also been done.”
Mr. Yandoh described the public narrative around the incident as unfortunate and misleading, emphasizing that Jumah followed all necessary internal processes and did not simply walk away with state property.
“It’s not like he stole the cars, as is being circulated. That’s unfair. He knew he had followed the right procedure, so why should he hand them over again?” he questioned.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service says investigations are still ongoing.
At a press briefing, the Director-General of the CID, DCOP Lydia Yaako Donkor, confirmed the arrest and stressed that it was based on a formal petition.
Maxwell Kofi Jumah is a seasoned Ghanaian politician and businessman.
He is best known for his role as the former Managing Director (MD) of GIHOC Distilleries Company Limited, a state-owned alcoholic beverage producer in Ghana.
