Mahama Must Fail to Help NPP Come Back to Power – Former Subin MP

The former Member of Parliament for Subin in the Ashanti Region, Eugene Boakye Antwi, has argued that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government must fail for the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to return to power.

Speaking in an interview on Tuesday, July 1 on Channel 1 TV, he said it is his firm wish that Mahama would fail to allow his party to return to governance.

“I want him [Mahama] to fail, I want my party to win the 2028 elections. I don’t want him to fail, as in fail. But I know that NDC cannot do much in terms of what they promised,” he stated.

Antwi further argued that even if Mahama has great intentions, his appointees are likely to engage in behaviour that will lead to his failure.

“I have been in government, and sometimes, as a President, your appointees will make sure that you fail. The kind of things I saw when we were in government are the same Ghanaians in the NDC, so it will be transferred across there,” he explained.

He added that these are the factors necessary for the NPP to return to power, so that’s his wish for the next four years of the Mahmaa administration.

“I don’t want Mahama to succeed as in succeeding, because I want my party [NPP] to win… In terms of the actual management of the economy, I don’t think the NDC has what it takes,” he added.

Analysis

The comments from the NPP MP have rightly caused a stir among social media users who were taken aback by the brazen selfishness of the former NPP legislator.

While the NPP continues to scratch their head to figure out why Ghanaians kicked them out in the last elections, they seem immune to carrying out the kind of self-reflection needed to come to the right conclusion about their election loss.

This naked choice of party over country and internal arrogance was a huge contributor to the party’s loss, and until they grapple with that fact, it would take a massive NDC collapse for them to even sniff power once again.
