Fix It – The U.S. Is Only Matching Our Actions – Aboagye Warns Gov’t

Dennis Miracles Aboagye, a former Presidential Staffer under the Akufo-Addo administration and current aide to 2024 defeated presidential candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has blamed Ghana’s Foreign Ministry for the recent visa restrictions imposed by the United States.

The U.S. government, through its Department of State, has introduced a new visa policy limiting most Ghanaian non-immigrant visa holders to single-entry visas valid for just three months.

The change affects key visa categories such as B-class (for tourism and business) and F-1 student visas — a major departure from the previous five-year, multiple-entry arrangement.

Reacting to the news on Facebook, Aboagye insisted the move is not a sanction or security-related issue, but rather a reciprocal response to a decision taken by Ghana.

“There is only ONE WAY out of this for Ghana. If you want 5-years multiple visas for Ghanaian citizens, then restore the 5-year multiple visa for the American citizens,” he stated.

He compared the situation to a similar development in Nigeria, where the U.S. applied the same policy.

“And oh, for those asking, how about Nigeria? Yes, Nigeria also suffered the same, and theirs is also RECIPROCITY,” Aboagye explained.

“The Nigerian government has swiftly admitted that the 3-month visa single entry policy review by the U.S. Government is reciprocity — except that, they are of the view that it’s disproportionate and are asking the U.S. Government to take a second look at it.”

Aboagye criticized Ghanaian authorities for what he described as a lack of transparency and urgency in responding to the matter.

“Our government, who should act in such a swift manner, is here arguing with its citizens and attempting to cover up the fact that it is a reciprocity issue.

Meanwhile, the thing is written black and white by the U.S. government for everyone to read.”

He further warned of the economic implications for Ghanaian travelers, noting the added cost and stress of reapplying for a visa each time they need to travel.

“This 3-month single entry visa thing has an economic burden and implication on Ghanaians — wake up and fix it,” he charged.

Addressing the broader implications, Aboagye dismissed claims that adjusting Ghana’s visa terms would infringe on national sovereignty.

“This has nothing to do with sovereignty; it has everything to do with common sense. I treat you how you treat me,” he wrote. “This is diplomacy, not propaganda!”
