Police Arrests Suspect in Murder of Immigration Officer
The Ghana Police Service has announced the arrest of a suspect in connection to the murder of an Immigration officer, Stephen King Amoah.
In a press statement released on Thursday, July 10, 2025, the Police service said Bright Aweh, a friend of the deceased who reportedly owed him GHS 200,000, has been picked up to assist in investigations.
Amoah was found burnt to death on Wednesday, July 9th, in a gutter near GBC Satellite, opposite Comet Estate in Accra.
He had been reported missing by his family on July 4, after he left home for a meeting with Aweh to retrieve the money owed him.
According to preliminary investigations, after leaving his home on the evening of July 3 to meet Aweh, Amoah was never heard from again. He had initially left home after Aweh requested a meeting at Spot at Ashongman Estate.
The statement said: “Subsequent Police operations led to the arrest of suspect Bright Aweh, who admitted during interrogation to having given the deceased GHS 500,000.00 in cash. He claimed to have directed the deceased to use part of the money to pay off some debts and hold the remaining amount for later collection. However, the suspect could not clearly explain the source of the funds and gave conflicting statements.”
Details of the crime has left Ghanaians rattled, with many on social media calling for justice to be delivered.
