Hawa Koomson Hospitalised After Alleged Assault in Ablekuma North
The former Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East, Mavis Hawa Koomson, has reportedly been hospitalised after being assaulted in Ablekuma North.
The Director of Communications for the 2024 Bawumia campaign, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, claims Koomson is currently fighting for her life after the incident.
Hawa Koomson was attacked by some unidentified individuals at the Odorkor Methodist Church polling station in the Accra constituency where an election rerun is ongoing.
According to reports, Hawa Koomson was monitoring events at the polling station when some unidentified thugs stormed the place and overpowered the police personnel.
They assaulted the former Fisheries Minister, with the incident captured in a viral video.
A TV3 reporter claimed Koomson was kicked in the groin and fell to the ground, where she was repeatedly assaulted by the thugs.
Koomson was eventually whisked away by her security detail.
Speaking after the incident, Miracles Aboagye claimed she had been hospitalised and was fighting for her life.
Speaking to journalists, Miracles Aboagye said, “Our people are being attacked. As we speak, Hawa Koomson is currently fighting for her life in a hospital.”

Analysis of attacks on Hawa Koomson and Chris Lloyd
The violence erupting during the Ablekuma North election rerun has marred what should be a peaceful and simple process.
Ghana has begun developing a history of chaotic by-elections/reruns, which must be nipped in the bud by the Police Service if we’re to maintain the peace in the country.
The incidents going on in Ablekuma North are shameful, and the top echelons of the ruling NDC must sit up and condemn what is happening.
