The residents of Akwatia in the Eastern region, Denkyembour District, have held a vigil in honour of the late NPP parliamentarian Ernest Yaw Kumi.

The vigil was organised on Monday, July 14th, 2025, the fourth night after the sudden passing of Ernest Kumi.

But unfortunately, what was expected to be a solemn event to mourn and remember the fallen parliamentarian took a shocking twist as sympathisers hit the street with different styles of dance moves.

Videos circulating on social media show no sign of sadness or worry on the faces of attendees as they dance soluku in a happy mood.

Social media users are expressing shock over the vigil and how everything went down! It appears people have moved on so quickly from the death of the 41-year-old Member of Parliament.

The Member of Paliament for Akwatia, Hon. Ernest Yaw Kumi, died on July 7th, 2025.

Reports indicated that he complained of a chest pain after he returned from a trip.

According to the report, his family rushed him to Lister Hospital, but he could not make it.

Brother of the late politician revealed in an interview, “He travelled and arrived this morning. When he returned, he complained of chest pain and was taken to the Lister Hospital. He was given a drip, but it was noticed that the fluid wasn’t flowing. Later, his wife was told that he was not responding to treatment and had died.”

Hon. Ernest Kumi was said to have contested for a Member of parliament in his constituency multiple times before he finally won in December 2024.

Unfortunately, he died at 41 years old after just 6 months in office. He is survived by his wife and 3 children.
