It’s an Insult to the Voters -Dr. Hanna Bisiw Rejects Intimidation Claims in Ablekuma North Victory

Dr. Hanna Louisa Bisiw-Kotei, the National Women’s Organiser of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has firmly pushed back against allegations that her party intimidated its way to victory during the recent Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun.

Dr. Bisiw described such claims as both unfounded and disrespectful to the will of the electorate when she appeared on Channel One TV’s Face to Face with Umaru Sanda Amadu.

“When they say we bullied our way, it will be like people didn’t vote, and we pushed and counted ballots that didn’t exist.

I mean for you [NPP] to say that somebody bullied their way in a democratic dispensation where we all participated, then I don’t really know what they mean,” she stated.

She further emphasized that voters in the constituency turned out not once, but twice, to express their democratic choice and that casting aspersions on the process was a direct attack on their integrity.

“I think that it’s also an insult to the electorate in Ablekuma. They queued, some went to work, and hurriedly came back to vote,” Dr. Bisiw said.

Referencing the original December 7, 2024, election, Dr. Bisiw noted that the rerun became necessary because the initial outcome failed to reflect the people’s true will.

According to her, the rerun offered voters a second chance to be heard — and they made their choice loud and clear.

“They voted on December 7, 2024, and their will didn’t reflect in whatever results were declared.

There was a rerun and they spoke again, so I don’t think that is fair for anybody to say that they or we bullied our way to victory,” she added.

Indeed, Hanna Bisiw-Kotei is right; the NDC won legitimately.

The signs were evident on the walls that this would be a continuation of the NPP’s 2024 electoral defeat, especially considering President Mahama’s impressive start since taking office.

Nevertheless, the chaos recorded during the Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun has overshadowed the victory, providing the NPP with more reasons to cry foul.
