General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Kodua Frimpong, has made a passionate appeal for unity, discipline, and strategic repositioning as the party aims to reclaim political power in the 2028 general elections.

Kodua expressed confidence that the Ghanaian electorate is growing increasingly disillusioned with the current administration under President John Dramani Mahama, and is looking to the NPP as a credible alternative.

“Ghanaians are looking for alternatives and Ghanaians want to come back to NPP.

Ghanaians know that our government offered better solutions to their problems,” he stated while ddressing delegates at the NPP’s National Delegates Conference held on Saturday, July 19, 2025.

He urged party members to present a united and focused front to meet public expectations.

“At the end of the day, they want to vote for an opposition party that is ready for power.

Therefore, actions and inactions that seek to divide us, that bring acrimony and tension, need to be relegated,” he warned.

Kodua stressed that discipline and a renewed sense of purpose would determine the party’s success moving forward.

“We must show Ghanaians that we are a proper, responsible, and viable opposition party that will rescue them from the misery they are going through under the watch of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama and the NDC government,” he declared.

Adding his voice to the call for renewal, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin also charged NPP supporters to unite behind a common purpose and reestablish strong ties with the grassroots.

Speaking at the same conference at the University of Ghana Stadium in Accra, Afenyo-Markin emphasized that despite the party’s electoral setback in 2024, its core remains intact. “The NPP is not a broken party,” he assured.

To me, it appears the NPP has yet to learn any meaningful lessons from their historic 2024 defeat.

Frankly, this conference should have been a moment for the party to reflect, correct its past mistakes, and reposition itself strategically for the next election.

Instead, there were sporadic jabs at the NDC, with claims that Ghanaians are already clamouring for the NPP’s return just seven months after leaving office.

But the reality is different. Every indication suggests that Ghanaians are even open to giving the NDC another term after Mahama’s tenure.

Yet, the NPP seems to be living in denial — a mindset clearly reflected in comments made by Kodua.
