The Supreme Court has quashed a bench warrant issued in 2020 against Ghanaian-born, US-based broadcaster Kevin Ekow Taylor.

The court ruled in a 4:1 majority on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, that the process violated the principles of natural justice and denied Taylor the right to be heard.

The warrant was originally issued by Justice Eric Kyei Baffour of the Court of Appeal, sitting as a High Court judge, after Taylor was cited for contempt.

The contempt charge stemmed from a video shared on Facebook, in which Taylor, through his ‘With All Due Respect’ program on Loud Silence Media, criticized the judge and accused him of serving the interests of the Akufo-Addo government.

Taylor specifically alleged that Justice Kyei Baffour had been promoted to the Court of Appeal for siding with the then ruling government in a case involving the alleged embezzlement of $4 million by some officials of the National Communications Authority (NCA).

At the time, the judge interpreted the comments as scandalous and said they sought to incite the public against him and the judiciary.

Although Kevin Taylor was never arrested, the warrant had remained active until the Supreme Court overturned it.

The apex court emphasized that Taylor was not given a fair opportunity to defend himself before the warrant was issued, thus breaching the tenets of due process.
