Kojo Choi Among 8 New Ambassadors Nominated by Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has nominated eight persons to serve as Ghana’s Ambassadors and High Commissioners to key international missions.
The nominations, which followed formal consultations with the Council of State, were outlined in a letter dated July 21, 2025, signed by the Secretary to the President, Dr. Callistus Mahama.
The selected individuals are expected to take up their roles after receiving parliamentary approval and completing diplomatic protocols.
Among those nominated are Alhaji Abdul-Rahman Harruna Attah for Namibia, Dr. Kwame Ampofo for Hungary, Mona Helen Kabuki Quartey for Italy, Magnus Kofi Amoatey for the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenneth Akibate for Burkina Faso, Said Saleh Sinare for Saudi Arabia, and Paul Evans Aidoo for Kenya. Kojo Choi has been named Ambassador to the Republic of South Korea, while Mr. Benedict Batabe Assorow will replace Mrs. Satirich Dorcas Ocran as Ghana’s Ambassador to the Vatican City State.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been directed to undertake the necessary steps to complete the appointment process.
Particular attention has turned to Kojo Choi, whose background and connection to Ghana have drawn public interest.
In a personal Facebook post, Choi shared his perspective on the country he now represents diplomatically.
“33 years ago, I was just 14. Since then, I’ve witnessed every Ghanaian election under the 1992 Constitution. We shocked the world—not with chaos, but with peaceful, democratic transitions. Today, Ghana is a beacon of democracy in Africa,” he wrote.
Choi, who naturalised as a Ghanaian citizen, noted that he had the option to leave for the United States or South Korea but made a deliberate decision to stay in Ghana.
“I could have left to the US or to Korea at some point in life, but I chose to stay—not chase so-called greener pastures abroad. I naturalised as a Ghanaian, and I’ve never looked back,” he stated.
Now nearing his 50s, Choi describes Ghana as his permanent home. “Ghana may not be my birthplace, but it is my true home. May the good Lord continue to bless us and our mother land Ghana,” he added.
