The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has arrested one of the directors of the Nyarkotey University College of Holistic Medicine and Technology in Ashaiman, Greater Accra Region, for operating unaccredited programmes and an unlicensed health facility.

Dr. Ademan Tetteh, who is also one of the three owners of the institution, was picked up by officers from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, during an enforcement exercise led by GTEC officials. His arrest follows a visit to the campus to assess the institution’s operations.

Speaking to journalists after the operation, the Director for Corporate Affairs at GTEC, Jerry Sarfo, justified the clampdown as necessary due to continued disregard for regulatory directives.

“This is something we’re doing because there have been persistent calls for people to desist from running unaccredited programmes and they keep doing it. So, there was the need for us to actually enforce compliance,” he said.

He added that preliminary discussions were held with Dr. Tetteh and the institution’s registrar on site.

“We came here to have a look at this, and we have actually had some interactions with the director who happens to be one of the three directors here and the registrar was the management member here.

And we’re going to actually have further interactions with them at the police station.”

Mr. Sarfo also commented on academic titles being issued by the institution, describing them as questionable.

“Regarding the professorship thing that we saw, I think we need to interrogate further.

Yes, we have seen that they have been offered Doctorship and honorary professorship and we need to look at it first before we are able to justify.”

He stressed that the primary concern remains the school’s academic legitimacy. “The purpose for which we’re here is for the fact that the institution is running an unaccredited programme which we frown upon as a Commission.”

The two other directors of the school, Daniel Tetteh Boafo and Professor Nyarkotey Obu, were not present during the raid.
