OSP Detains Paul Adom-Otchere Over GACL Probe
Metro TV presenter and former Board Chairman of the Ghana Airport Company Limited (GACL), Paul Adom-Otchere, was detained by the Office of the Special Prosecutor on Thursday, July 31, 2025.
Adom-Otchere visited the OSP’s offices following an invitation to probe his alleged role in an alleged corrupt contract entered into by GACL during his time in charge.
Following the meeting, the OSP released a statement indicating that the prominent media personality had failed to meet his bail conditions and would be detained.
The presenter’s bail conditions required him to present two landed properties owned in Ghana, but he denied having any property either in the country or abroad.
He is therefore being held until he fulfils the conditions.
“Mr Adom‑Otchere has so far been unable to meet his bail conditions. He is required to present two landed properties… However, he has informed the OSP that he does not own landed property in Ghana. As a result, he remains in custody until the bail terms are satisfied.” the OSP’s statement said.
Paul Adom-Otchere is under investigation for his alleged role in a contract the GACL issued to a private firm operated by the proprietor of Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML), which faces multiple corruption probes by the OSP.
The office headed by Kissi Agyabeng alleges that the contract breached procurement law by awarding a sole-sourced contract with GACL Board Approval.
Adom-Otchere has claimed publicly that he had no knowledge of the contract under discussion even though he was Board Chairman of the company at the time.
Aside from the prominent journalist, two other people face charges, including Otchere Kwame Baffour Awuah, Group Executive of Commercial Services at GACL, and Albert Adjetey Adjei‑Laryea, Chief Executive Officer of Devnest Systems.
Analysis of Paul Adom-Otchere being detained by OSP
The Special Prosecutor’s move to detain the NPP-aligned journalist came as a surprise to many, least of all Adom-Otchere himself, who expected to turn up for an interview and peaceably leave.
However, it appears the OSP had other ideas.
Currently, the merits of the case have yet to be proven, but once you are detained, you have to meet your bail conditions before you can leave.
The onus now lies on Paul and his legal team to procure the needed landed properties, as it appears he is unwilling to share details of his own properties with law enforcement.
