The Ministry of Transport has clarified that it is not deliberately withholding information requested by The Fourth Estate under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2019 (Act 989), concerning a controversial disinfection contract allegedly valued at GHC 340,000 per day in 2022.

This follows a social media post by Sulemana Braimah, in which he claimed the ministry had refused to release a copy of the contract between the ministry and Zoomlion Ghana Limited for the disinfection of airports and aviation facilities.

Braimah wrote, “We made RTI requests to the Transport Ministry for a copy of the contract… The Ministry says it won’t release it. We won’t give up!”

In a press release dated August 2, 2025, the ministry explained that the request from The Fourth Estate was officially submitted on May 28, 2025, and is still being processed in accordance with procedures outlined in the RTI Act.

The Ministry is not denying Fourth Estate access to the information but following due processes,” the statement said, emphasizing that institutions are required to adhere to a defined procedure when granting access to public information.

The ministry further stressed that it does not and would not shield any organization or individual engaged in wrongdoing. It reiterated its commitment to transparency, accountability, and good governance.

It concluded by assuring the public of its dedication to probity and leadership in the transport sector’s development.
