What Happened Was Vendetta, Not Politics – Vanderpuye

Former Odododiodioo MP and National Coordinator of the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP), Nii Lante Vanderpuye, has dismissed claims that the chaos witnessed during the Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun was politically motivated. He insists the incident was driven by personal vendetta, not partisan tensions.
The experienced politician argued that the violence at St. Peter’s polling station stood alone and did not reflect a broader political pattern.
“I will not condone political violence. What happened in Ablekuma North, I want us to examine it critically as an incident of vendetta rather than political violence.
“Apart from that incident, there was no similar occurrence at any other polling station,” he explained on Breakfast Daily on Channel One TV on Thursday, July 17.
Vanderpuye pointed to a history of unresolved tensions in the constituency, particularly involving the former Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Hawa Koomson.
According to him, her past conduct helped sow the seeds for the recent unrest.
“Hawa Koomson consistently visited violence on certain groups of people in the constituency, which led to death, destruction of lives, with some people being incapacitated up till today,” he stated.
“If the government she served in had taken measures to punish her and make people feel justice had been served, this wouldn’t have happened.”

I agree with the former lawmaker. Hawa Koomson’s history of inciting violence and openly displaying firearms has earned her many enemies.
Her role in the death of an NDC scribe during the Kasoa election still lingers in the minds of the affected family.
If one takes a closer look, the recent incident occurred only at the polling station where she was present to observe the electoral process—it was not widespread.
While the retaliatory attack on her is condemnable, we must be cautious about provoking unrest under the assumption that we can act with impunity.
