Asiedu Nketia Blasts Sam George for Celebrating Ablekuma North Violence

The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has condemned the Minister of Communications, Sam George, for his comments on the violence in Ablekuma North.

Speaking on UTV, he said George’s vow that the attacks on NPP personalities in Ablekuma North were ‘just the beginning’ was spoken out of pain for the past violence he had faced but was wrong nonetheless.

Asiedu Nketia said in a democracy, the only entity with the power to punish wrongdoing is the state, so calling for vigilante violence is wrong even if it is in response to past violence.

“It’s wrong because democracy doesn’t give anyone the power to exact punishment except the state. So if someone slaps you and you slap them back, you’ve also committed a crime. So you can’t use past violence as a justification.” Asiedu Nketia said.

“I listened to Sam George threatening that this is just the beginning; I believe he has once been a victim of violence, so if you put yourself in his shoes, you might say he was right. But he is now a Minister of State so you have to speak as a Minister of State and overcome his personal grievances.”

He continued that he understands that emotions can get high because even Jesus Christ lost control of his emotions at a point but added that those of them in power must rise above their emotions.

“It’s painful to suffer violence and stay mute, because even Jesus was once overcome with emotions…but I don’t think that’s the way to solve the problem. What we have to do is call on the state agencies to do their work,” he said.

The Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, George, was assaulted by alleged NPP thugs during the Ayawaso West by-election in 2020. Following the outbreak of violence in Ablekuma North that led to attacks on Hawa Koomson and Lloyd Nii Kwei, Sam George celebrated, vowing that those attacks would be investigated only after his own attack in 2020 has been investigated.

Analysis of Asiedu Nketia condemning Sam George

It’s interesting what political ambition can do to a person!

Asiedu Nketia, arguably the most acid-tongued Ghanaian politician in the last two decades, has become the voice of reason!

His decision to codemn Sam George was clearly made through the lens of preparing for a Presidential bid, which requires him to be more measured in his pronouncements.

This confirms that General Mosquito is vying for the highest office in the land post-Mahama, and it would be fascinating to see if any NDC politician has the power to stop him from the Flagbearer position.
