Galamsey: NDC’s 7 Months Worse Than NPP’s 8 Years – Justin Kodua Frimpong
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, has claimed the NDC’s seven months of galamsey have been worse than the NPP’s eight years.
Speaking during a press conference held on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, he said the NDC’s promises about stopping galamsey have been futile, and it has deteriorated way beyond where it was under the NPP.
“Since taking office, the NDC and its acolytes have greedily taken over the galamsey trade at a breakneck speed. The level at which they are destroying our land, our water and our forest reserves really boggles the mind,” he said.
He said the deterioration the NDC has wrought has been worse than anything that happened under the NPP.
“The things we’ve seen in the past seven months under the NDC have surpassed anything that happened during the eight years of the NPP. Today, the NDC’s foot soldiers have taken over galamsey, and they enter forest reserves with impunity.” he claimed. “Even when they encounter the security agencies, they have no fear. President Mahama, when you were in opposition, spoke a lot about galamsey, but since you came into power, things have become far worse.”

Analysis of the NPP’s galamsey press conference
The claim that galamsey has been worse in seven months of the NDC than throughout the NPP’s eight years is highly unlikely to be true.
The deterioration of Ghana’s water bodies and forest reserves that occurred during the NPP’s eight years has been unprecedented.
If things have become worse under the NDC’s tenure, it would only be due to where it started off when they took power.
The NDC has been far from effective with dealing with the menace, but the NPP cannot think they would avoid responsibility for their role in destroying our environment by heaping all blame on the NDC.
